OverviewNanoscience and Nanotechnology present great scientific challenges and show a high potential for innovation and novel applications in many areas. For these reasons the European Commission proposal for the 6th Framework Programme (2002 – 2006) has a strong focus on Nanotechnology. Out of the total proposed funding of €17.5 billion, €1.3 billion will be devoted to Priority 3, a priority thematic area of research on Nanotechnologies and nanosciences, knowledge-based multi-functional materials and new production processes and devices. Objectives of the EU Nanotechnology Programme
